The Designer Genes Walk for Down Syndrome is one of the largest disability walks in the state of North Dakota. With more than 2,000 attendees, this event spreads awareness about Down syndrome and inclusion and celebrates individuals with Down syndrome and their families. We can't wait to celebrate with you in 2025.

Walk for Down Syndrome

Who Should Participate
Everyone can attend. Participants include people with Down syndrome from around the state, their families, friends, teachers, coworkers and other supporters. The general public is encouraged to attend and show their support for people of all abilities.

​This year, we celebrated 21 years for the 21st Chromosome. In conjunction with the Designer Genes walk, last year alone, nationally awareness walks for Down syndrome raised more than $10.5 million to benefit national education, research and advocacy initiatives, as well as local programs and services. 

​Support the Walk
​​Donations are welcome to help support Down syndrome awareness and Designer Genes’ work across the state. Together as a community, we we raised over $94,000 for our community in 2024. We hope you will consider donating or being a sponsor to support our efforts statewide in 2025!

​​​With the funds raised from our walks, we have been able to:

• Reach almost 50% of the estimated 600 families that are estimated to have an individual family member living with Down syndrome in North Dakota. 
• Hire an executive director which means that families have direct access to information and emotional support who can support any challenges they may be facing. 
• Supply 10 North Dakota birthing hospitals with information for families with new babies with Down syndrome. 
• Hold ongoing family events for our community to join from across the state.
