World Down Syndrome Day

What is World Down Syndrome Day?

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is a global awareness day that raises awareness and promotes belonging. World Down Syndrome Day occurs on the 21st day of March each year to represent the triplication of the 21st chromosome which is what causes Down syndrome. Each year, Designer Genes of ND helps to raise awareness and celebrate individuals with Down syndrome of all ages by organizing activities!

ND Get Ready to Rock Your Socks!

On World Down Syndrome Day, we help raise awareness by rocking a pair of fun or mismatched socks. This is an easy way to celebrate with your community. Whether it's at your school, work, preschool, childcare, church, family, pets, or favorite business - the possibilities are endless!

Why Socks?

Because under a microscope, a pair of chromosomes look like a pair of socks. Fun fact, people with Down syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome number 21, so they 47 chromosomes in their cells.
