Designer Genes Family Picnic August 2007
The Bismarck-Mandan “Designer Genes” name and support group was originally created by a group of local families who had young children with Down syndrome, about 20 years ago. Over the years, this network of families has offered support and information to each other in many ways.

Currently, the mailing list hosts over 40 families who are raising children and adults with Down syndrome.

Supports provided by Designer Genes include:

• Informational packets provided to both local hospitals for families of new babies with Down syndrome.

• Partnership with Missouri Valley Quilting Guild and local quilters to provide new crib quilts for new babies with Down syndrome.

• First time visits for families of new babies with Down syndrome.

• A reading library of pertinent Down syndrome materials.

• An annual picnic and Buddy Walk.

• Informational meetings and educational events.

• One-to-one networking and advocacy.

The group is currently working to incorporate, seek non-profit status and establish a board. If you are interested in getting involved, please email info@designergenesnd.com.
